Heidi's Pottery Yarn Bowls

My yarn bowls are a great way to keep your ball of yarn from rolling around on the floor, under the furniture, gathering dust and teasing the cat.
These bowls are hand thrown and carved. The holes and j-curve are smooth so as not to catch your yarn. They are more bottom heavy than my other work so as to be more stable and resist tipping when you tug your yarn. (Yarn not included.)

Standard Yarn Bowls

These will easily hold 50 gram balls of yarn, and many 100 gram balls as well (photos show them holding 100 gram balls). There is a swirl carved in one side so that you can remove your project from the bowl at any time, and the other side has simply a hole, in case you want a more secure attachment to the bowl and you know you won't want to remove your project before completion (plus, I like symmetry).

No-Swirl Yarn Bowls

Less fragile and more affordable than my other yarn bowls, these bowls offer a secure connection to your yarn and are perfect for when you don't plan on removing your project from the bowl until completion.

Plying Bowls

My plying bowls are based on ancient flax bowls, where the flax was fed through a loop on the bottom of a bowl containing water, thus forcing it through the water and wetting it. On these bowls, the loop is at the side of the bowl, so that your ball can rotate freely in the bottom of the bowl without catching on the loop. The loop is placed at an angle to (and approximately 1.5 to 2 inches from) a single exit hole in the wall, adding just enough tension so that your fiber doesn't feed out to your spindle too fast.

$39/$46 (depending on glaze).
